Stavros Tombris MD, PhD, DDS

Associate Professor Stavros Tombris is a Maxillofacial Surgeon specializing in Facial and Neck Surgery in pediatric and adult patients.

He received his Medical Degree from Democritus University Medical School and his Dental Degree from Aristotelean University Dental School. 

He was awarded a Ph.D in Medicine from Democritus University Medical School for his research on growth factors.

Prof. Tombris is also a graduate of the Hellenic Military Academy of Combat Support Officers. He served for 26 years in the Hellenic Armed Forces as an active-duty Health Corps officer of the Hellenic Navy and retired with the rank of Commander.  

He completed his surgical training in the US and graduated from Tufts University, Boston, MA, residency program in Maxillofacial Surgery.

At the same time, while in the US, he was a Surgical Consultant at the Hemangiomas and Vascular Malformations Clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital (Director. Prof. Martin C. Mihm-Harvard University Medical School).

His scientific interest includes Hemangiomas, Vascular Malformations, and the treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the Face and Neck. 

He served as Director of the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery at Athens Naval Hospital. 

In 2017, he established the European Vascular Anomalies Clinic in Athens, a medical facility dedicated to diagnosing and treating Vascular Anomalies. Since then, many local and international vascular lesion patients have been successfully treated in Athens, Greece.

Prof. Tombris is currently the Director of the Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic at Children’s IASO Hospital in Athens.

He has been awarded for his lifelong contribution to the research, diagnosis, and treatment of Vascular Anomalies and for maintaining a high standard of medical practice.

In 2019, he was appointed as a Visiting Professor at the “Henan Provincial People’s Hospital” of the People’s Republic of China as a scientist with wide international recognition in the treatment of vascular lesions.

He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor at the European University Cyprus Medical School, teaching undergraduate medical students and supervising postgraduate research projects.

As an invited speaker, Dr. Tombris has lectured extensively on Vascular Anomalies and specialized facial surgery at many international and local conferences. 

He has also contributed to organizing and operating Vascular Anomalies clinics in various countries.

He has been instrumental in organizing and participating in international conferences and educational events focused on vascular anomalies, including collaborations with renowned medical institutions and communities for advanced clinical education.  

Dr. Tombris has also been involved in philanthropic efforts, partnering with organizations to provide free laser treatments, ultrasounds, and expert consultations for patients with vascular birthmarks.
